Mary Hanson, a longtime Woodinville resident, passed away Dec. 12 at Group Health Hospital in Redmond.
Mary was born Nov. 23, 1910, in Owatonna, Minn. to Frank J. Kubat and his wife Mary Pechacek. She attended school in the Rice Lake area and cosmetology school in St. Paul.
She worked at Miller's Barber and Beauty Shop in Owatonna and met and married Lloyd E. Hanson.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd on Dec. 24, 1980, her son James on Feb. 7, 2000, sister Annie, and brothers John and Edward Kubat.
She is survived by her daughter Marge of Woodinville; grandsons, Kenneth Hanson (Reneé) of Las Vegas, Nev. and Michael Hanson of Owatonna, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Linda Hanson of Owatonna; sisters, Elsie Shumacher of Boise, Idaho, Agnes Mork of Minneapolis, Sophie Wincell of St. Paul, Magdalen Larson of Owatonna and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was active in Woodinville United Methodist Church groups and was a member of the Ronald McDonald Breakfast Club.
Along with her husband and children, Mary raised and showed draft horses in Minnesota and Washington. The family sold their final herd of sorrel percherons to a new owner in Honolulu in 1977 and lived in Hawaii for six months.
Following their return to Washington, Mary and Lloyd were starting a new herd of horses and a hayride business.
Mary remained active in gardening, tending her flowers and mowing her huge lawn until she turned 89. She recently celebrated her 90th birthday.
She will be missed by all of her family and friends in Minnesota and Washington.
Funeral services were held Dec. 16 at Bothell Funeral Home. Services will also be held Dec. 23 at the Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna, Minn.
