Local young musicians honored for artistic merit
The Bellevue Youth Symphony announced the winners of the Frances Walton Youth Music Scholarship Awards at the Showcase Concert on Nov. 19.
Northshore area musicians included:
Stewart Brewster (cello) - Youth Symphony, Alan Futterman, conductor. Brewster is 17 years-old and this is his eighth year in BYSO. He plays principal cello for the Youth Symphony and lives in north Kirkland.
Michael Shannon (percussion) - Premiere Orchestra, Sanja Futterman,conductor. Shannon is in 4th grade and this is his second year with BYSO. He resides with his family in Woodinville.
The winners were selected by the conductor of each of the four orchestral divisions which make up the Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra organization.
Named for the Youth Symphony founder, Francis Walton, the partial tuition awards are presented to one student from each division for artistic merit.
