Hugh Eugene Bemis

A memorial service for Hugh Eugene Bemis, age 72, was held Jan. 6, at Washington Cathedral. Hugh passed away Sunday, Dec. 31, at his home in Bothell.
Hugh was born Oct. 28, 1928, in Westminster, Vt., the son of Ernest and Lucy Bemis. He was raised in Charlestown, N.H., and graduated from Charlestown High School. He later attended the University of New Hampshire where he graduated in 1949 with an agricultural degree.
On April 20, 1952, in North Charlestown, N.H., he married Janet Jackson. They began their life together in North Charlestown where they started a family. He worked on the family farm and later as an insurance underwriter for Connecticut Mutual. They lived for years in South Ryegate, Vt., and Claremont, N.H., before moving to Bothell in June of 1982. In his later years he worked as an antique wholesaler.
His family remembers him as a very caring person who always gave of himself. He made many special friends wherever he went. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. They will always remember the last game of pool they played together on Christmas day, which he won.
Hugh is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Janet Bemis, of Bothell; his daughters, Kathleen Bemis and her husband Donald Blair, of Carnation, Marjorie Bemis-Breznen and her husband William, of Bellevue, and Barbara Tidyman and her husband Paul of Walden, Vt.; his brothers, Howard Bemis of North Swansey, N.H., and Maynard Bemis of Charlestown, N.H.; and his five grandchildren, Kyra, Kellen, and Roxanne Blair and Jesse and Jonah Tidyman. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Barton and Gordon Bemis and sisters, Charlotte Lawrence and Barbara Goldsmith.
