Council hears street plan update

BOTHELL - At a special Bothell City Council meeting on Jan. 22, Citywide Street Plan consultants and city staff updated the Council and citizens on the Street Plan process and on the results of the technical evaluation of the connectivity ideas and reclassifications.
   Subsequent to the consultant's presentation, the City Council voted 6-1 to remove a proposed connection between 112th Ave. NE and 242nd St. SE due to a potential interchange at 240th St. SE with Interstate 405 as found in a draft Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) I-405 Committee Report. Based on that action and within the same motion, Council also removed the proposed reclassification of 241st St. SE, maintaining its current status as local access street and not reclassifying it to a collector as proposed.
   An estimated 300 citizens attended the special meeting at the Northshore Senior Center, with approximately 40 citizens providing public comments about the Street Plan. The City Council, City staff and consultants are currently working to answer citizen questions addressed during the public comment portion as well as preparing for the upcoming neighborhood open house meetings to be held each evening (6 to 8 p.m.) from Feb. 5 through 8.
   Monday, Feb. 5 - Northshore Senior Center, Rooms 101 and 102 (10201 E. Riverside Drive, Bothell);
   Tuesday, Feb. 6 - Canyon Park Junior High School Library (23723 23rd Avenue SE, Bothell);
   Wednesday, Feb. 7 - Northshore Senior Center, Multi-Purpose Room;
   Thursday, Feb. 8 - Northshore Senior Center, Rooms 202 and 203.
   A daytime open house will be held on Thursday, Feb. 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Bothell City Hall Council Chambers (18305 101st Avenue NE, Bothell).
   Last fall, the City retained a transportation and land use planning firm to develop recommendations for a Citywide Street Plan. The City Council will utilize the consultants' recommendation, along with many other factors, in its consideration for the Street Plan's final adoption.
