Student wins award
Krystal Barghelame, a 15-year-old from Woodinville, has been announced as the national winner of the Music Teachers National Association Award for Music Composition. Krystal will be traveling to Washington D.C. to receive her award at the group's national convention. Her original composition, entitled "Bats in the Belfry," is a chamber work for four instruments: violin, viola, cello, and chimes.
It will be performed March 25, at the convention, by youth fellowship members of the National Symphony. Currently, Krystal studies piano and composition with Sharon Van Valin of Mercer Island. In addition she takes classes at the Academy of Music Northwest and participates in the Seattle Symphony's Young Composers Workshop. Along with her music, Krystal loves sports. She plays soccer, basketball and tennis on the varsity teams at her school, the Overlake School in Redmond, where she is in 9th grade. Krystal lives in Woodinville with her parents, Si and Roberta.
