Potlatch at Bear Creek
As a finale to studying Native American culture, fourth grade students at Bear Creek Elementary participated in a traditional Potlatch on Tuesday evening, March 13.
Fourth grade teachers, Peggy Sherman, Karen Kapovich and Tracy DeMeo, along with music and PE teachers, Elaine Hoffman and Cheryl McDavid worked to make this as authentic as possible.
Decorating the school gym were totem poles designed, built and hand painted by the students. Traditional foods such as smoked salmon and fresh strawberries were provided, games wre played, songs were sung and a short play of the legend "How the Loon Lost Her Voice."
The program was backed by student musicians that captured the sound of a Native American Village.
