Firefighters battle blaze
Northshore Fire Department was dispatched to an apartment fire in the 800 block of NE Bothell Way on March 31 at 1:30 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters reported flames shooting from a first floor apartment of a two-story, wood-frame building. The incident, upgraded to a second-alarm fire, triggered responses from Bothell, Kirkland and Shoreline fire departments.
Firefighters battled the blaze in the apartment that was extending to the apartment unit above, and threatening the unit to the side. A primary and secondary building search was conducted. All occupants had evacuated.
The occupant of the apartment escaped and was transported to Harborview for treatment of burns. Another occupant sustained a minor injury after lowering herself to the ground from the second-story balcony. Occupants of three apartment units were displaced. Red Cross arrived on the scene to assist with shelter, food and clothing needs.
The fire was discovered by a building occupant as he was returning home. He called 9-1-1 to report the fire, and began alerting occupants.
The apartment unit sustained minor damages, with some peripheral damage to the units above and adjacent to the fire unit. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. The King County Fire Investigations Unit is conducting the investigation.
