DUVALL - Marie Lugtu, a 24-year veteran of the U.S. Postal Service, has succeeded Bob Westfall as Duvall Postmaster. Westfall retired Feb. 2.
A resident of Marysville, Lugtu has been on the job since March 12.
Lugtu began her career in Seattle as a postal clerk and later carried mail. She moved to the Bothell Post Office, then to Marysville, working in different supervisory positions. This is her first job as postmaster, but she has been officer-in-charge for post offices in Monroe and Fall City.
Lugtu was born in the Philippines, but grew up in Seattle after her family moved there in the 1960s. She has three grown children and three grandchildren with another on the way.
She says she loves working for the Postal Service and is already enjoying the challenge of running the post office in the growing Duvall area.
"I like to keep busy but I know how to delegate," she says. "We have good people here. The customers are very nice and have made me feel welcome. Word gets around fast here and the welcome I have received has made me feel good."
A swearing-in ceremony will be held for Lugtu on April 20 at 12:30 p.m.
