Northshore students capture first at state competitions


   Northshore School District students earned top honors at the recent Washington State Math Championships.
   David Shin, a fifth grader at Woodmoor Elementary, captured first place in the Northwest Math Championships in Blaine. He was the top scorer on the individual test, competing against 480 other fifth graders. As a team, Woodmoor's fifth graders placed third out of 120 teams while a team of sixth grade students was eighth out of 120 teams.
   Katie Ewing, a sixth grader at Woodin Elementary, took sixth place in the competition. Sixth grade teams from Woodmoor and East Ridge finished eighth and ninth, respectively out of 114 teams.
