Car hit by fire engine responding to structure fire

At approximately 12:22 p.m. on May 4 the Woodinville Fire & Life Safety District (WFLSD) was responding to a structure fire in Duvall. The fire engine hit a single car in the intersection at 212th Avenue Northeast and Northeast Woodinville-Duvall Road.
According to WFLSD, the driver of the fire engine took evasive action by braking while the driver of the car involved attempted to speed up to avoid a direct impact to the left side of the car.
Members of the responding fire crew immediately gave aid to the driver of the car. They also asked for additional resources at the scene. A medic unit was behind the fire engine and assisted the fire crew and transported the driver of the car to Evergreen Hospital Medical Center.
Later that evening, the driver of the car was transferred to Swedish Medical Center where she had eye surgery. At press time her condition was unknown.
No firefighters were injured during this incident. However, after treating the 16-year-old female driver, the fire district relieved three firefighters who were on the fire engine at the time of the accident. Apparently they were emotionally shaken after the collision.
The King County Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident.
The roadway was closed for over five hours during an on- scene investigation.
