Fire destroys office space
On Tuesday, May 1, at 11:53 a.m. the Woodinville Fire and Life Safety District, the Bothell Fire and EMS Department and the Kirkland Fire Department responded to a report of smoke at the Windermere building on the corner of NE 175th and 140th NW. They arrived at the scene to find smoke pouring out of the attic space and attempted to gain access and extinguish a possible fire. The first crew entered the attic and after analyzing the HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) system where they thought the fire originated, they discovered that the fire was coming from the second floor. A second crew entered an office used by Sandra Lopez, psychologist, and found a small fire that started from a portable radio that had short circuited. The office was virtually destroyed by smoke and flame damage. The fire is being investigated but is presumed to be accidental. Lopez was devastated by the loss, but she was able to resume business the next day due to the back-up of records at another location and the offer of donated business space from business friends. The fire district said that because the door was shut on the Lopez office, it prevented the fire from spreading and reduced property loss to the owner and other tenants.
