African Village, June Bugs

Visit the African Village, the newest exhibit at Woodland Park Zoo. View the land and the wildlife of East Africa ( zebra, giraffe, oryx and monkeys) through the eyes of the people who live there. As you meander through an African rural village, you'll encounter a traditional house, primary school, teacher's house, palaver hut and more as you enter the gateway to the zoo's award-winning African Savanna exhibit. Enjoy African performances such as storytelling, music, dance, puppets and more during opening day weekends on Saturday - Monday, May 26-28, 10:a.m.-3 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday, June 2-3, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the African Savanna near the zoo's south gate at N. 50th St. & Fremont Ave. North. Cost is free with zoo admission.
   June 24 from noon to 3 p.m. will be June Bug Day at the zoo. An open house will celebrate earth's smallest creatures, the arthropods. The zoo's very own Bug Club will be on hand with activities, crafts and bug collections outside the zoo's "Bug" World. Cost is free with zoo admission.    August 29 The popular summer concert series returns for its 18th year and continues to offer the best concert bargain in the Pacific Northwest. Pop and singer-songwriter performances are offered outdoors in the zooís North Meadow with festival seating only. Blankets, low-backed patio chairs and picnic baskets are welcome. Food and non-alcoholic beverages are also available for purchase. Law prohibits alcoholic beverages at the zoo. Ticket prices range from $12 to $18 and go on sale beginning June 2 at all PCC Natural Markets: Fremont, Greenlake, Kirkland, Seward Park, View Ridge, West Seattle and Issaquah ($2 service fee added). A limited number of tickets will be sold at Woodland Park Zoo gates during regular zoo hours, but tickets sell out fast, so purchase early!    Hours: Zoo opens at 9:30 a.m. daily, 365 days of the year. Closing times vary: March 15 through April 30, 5:00 p.m.; May 1 through September 14, 6:00 p.m.; September 15 through October 14, 5:00 p.m. October 15 through March 14, 4:00 p.m.
   Admission: Adult (18-64) $9.00; Senior (65+) and Student with ID $8.25; Youth (6-17) and Disabled $6.50; Preschool (3-5) $4.25; Toddler (0-2) Free. King County residents: Adult (18-64) $8.00; Senior (65+) and Student with ID $7.25; Youth (6-17) and Disabled $5.75; Preschool (3-5) $3.75; Toddler (0-2) Free. Zoo members receive free year-round zoo admission.
