Woodinville Garden Club presents 'Tour of Gardens'
Woodinville Garden Club members are planning their second annual public tour of local gardens to be held Saturday, July 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The "Tour of Gardens 2001" will feature five private gardens located in the Woodinville community. This year's tour offers a rare opportunity to visit Terry Welch's internationally recognized 24-acre garden sanctuary.
Welch's garden reflects harmony in nature as diverse native and Asian plantings blend with Northwest woods and water.
Other open gardens will include a park-like setting showcasing cottage perennial and vegetable gardens and a natural pond, a nature lovers' four-season garden with creek-side plantings for salmon and birds, and a wooded ravine's shady trail which leads to sunny mountain views and raised flower, vegetable and herb beds.
Also on the tour is a garden with meandering forest paths opening to lawns bordered by roses, species rhododendrons, hostas and a pond for waterfowl.
Following the tour, Willow's Lodge will host a post-tour reception from 4:30 to 6 p.m. to all ticket holders. Along with wine tasting and appetizers, guests are invited to view the Northwest-designed lodge and its gardens.
Raffles tickets for Vera Beaumont's original watercolor, as seen on the tour tickets and poster, are available at each garden.
During the reception, the winning ticket for the painting will be announced. This year's "Tour of Gardens 2001" posters are $5 each the day of the tour.
In conjunction with the tour, Mutual Materials will host a free hardscape design and installation clinic from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Woodinville location of Molbak's Nursery.
Tour participants have the opportunity to explore the latest machine-made and natural product selections available for creating pathways, patios, raised beds and garden walls. Molbak's is located at 13625 NE 175th Street in Woodinville.
Tickets are $15 per person. The ticket brochure includes complete driving directions, map and descriptions for each garden.
To order tickets by mail, send name, complete mailing address, phone number, the number of tickets needed and a check or money order to Woodinville Garden Club, P.O. Box 1764, Woodinville, WA 98072.
Tickets are also available at all Molbak's Nursery locations and at Classic Nursery on Avondale Road in Redmond.
Tickets are non-refundable and limited in quantity. People with additional questions may call Leslie Okerman at (425) 481-6127.
Proceeds from this year's tour will be used to fund the club's ongoing civic projects including Woodinville beautification, horticultural scholarships and educational materials for the Terry Welch Garden Sanctuary Youth Project.
