License tabs on the Internet
Vehicle owners can now renew their license plate tabs online using a Visa or MasterCard for payment through a new program offered by the state.
Internet Tabs is designed by the Washington State Department of Licensing to provide customers with an around-the-clock ability to renew their vehicle tabs on most vehicles in just a few minutes.
Internet Tabs also provides customers with the convenience of renewing tabs using a credit card - an option not yet available when renewing by mail or in person. County outlets will distribute the tabs purchased online, in person or by mail.
The Internet Tabs project is designed to protect personal information, with credit card numbers not being displayed during the transactions and being specially coded to ensure privacy. Purchasers will need identification if picking up license tabs at any King County licensing facility. A list of all King County licensing locations can be found at http://www.metrokc.gov/lars/autoboat/agent.htm.
To access the Internet Tabs application, residents should go to http://www.InternetTabs.wa.gov. This site is also accessible by following links from the Department of Licensing Web site, at http://www.wa.gov/dol, or the Access Washington Web site, at http://www.access.wa.gov. Applicants will need the following to use the Internet Tabs:
A personal computer with Internet Access; Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or above, or Netscape Navigator 4.06 or above; the vehicle's license plate number and either the vehicle owner's last name or the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and a Visa or MasterCard.
