Information for school board candidates
Anyone considering running for election to a school board will be interested in the brochure "Serving on Your Local School Board" published by the Washington State School Directors' Association. Available at no cost, the brochure provides an overview of what a school board does, the requirements and responsibilities of being a school board member, and the traits which contribute to effective board service.
Approximately half of the 1,482 school board positions in Washington are subject to election this fall.
The filing period for school board candidates in all Washington school districts is July 23 through July 27. Declarations of candidacy are filed with the County Auditor or County Elections Department.
