July Fourth forecast: Lots of family fun
by Jeanette Knutson
Woodinville's All-American Picnic and Fireworks Show
Pack up the lawn chairs, corral the kids and head out for Woodinville's Fourth of July Family Celebration.
The fun begins at 6 p.m. July 4 at the JB Instant Lawn site, located south of downtown Woodinville on State Route 202 (NE 145th Street), across the street from Redhook Ale Brewery and Willows Lodge.
Four inflatable bouncers (open from 6 to 10 p.m.) will delight children and a $4 wristband (sold at the Information Tent) provides unlimited access.
No wristbands will be sold after 9 p.m. Clowns will rove the grounds in the inflatables-area eager to tickle funny bones. So be ready.
A Children's Arts and Crafts Tent (6 to 10 p.m.), sponsored by Nobel Learning Communities, will provide fun, interactive projects at no charge for 3 to 10 year olds.
Celebrity personalites will be on hand at the KMPS 94.1 FM booth and updates of Woodinville's "All-American Picnic and Fireworks Show" will be broadcast from time to time on the radio station.
Featured on the Family Entertainment Stage, sponsored by DeYoung Farm & Garden, will be The Rangers (7 p.m. - "howlin' good country music"), Steve the Pretty Good (8:15 p.m. - a fairly capable magician), and The Edsels (8:55 p.m. - "doo-wop" and beyond).
Families are encouraged to bring picnics, but food and beverage vendors will be on-site.
Choose from Eastside Sub Shop (sandwiches/beverages/espresso), Dragon Fly Coffee Company (espresso, salmon and chicken barbecue), Woodinville Lions Club (hot dogs and beverages), Pioneer Popcorn (Kettle Corn), Woodinville High School Dance Team (novelties), Northshore Gymnastics Center Booster Club (novelties, candy) and Rusty Smith Espresso Company (espresso).
Food and beverages will also be available at the Forecaster Pub at Redhook Ale Brewery across the street from JB Instant Lawn.
The highlight of the evening will be a spectacular 20-minute fireworks display (best on the Eastside!) put on by Entertainment Fireworks of Olympia. The show begins at 10:30 p.m. and will be choreographed to music broadcast across the site.
Metro Bus shuttles (look for "Event Shuttle" signs on the buses) will run free of charge from 6 to 8 p.m. from the following places:
€ Woodinville Park & Ride lot, 170th and 140th Avenue NE (every 10 minutes) and
€ Northshore Junior High School, 12101 NE 160th Street (every 15 minutes).
Shuttle buses will transport families back to their vehicles immediately following the conclusion of the fireworks display. Those leaving on the Kingsgate shuttle should exit the West Gate and walk back to the SR 202 side of Columbia Winery.
Those headed for the Woodinville Park & Ride should exit the East Gate.
Though six light towers will illuminate the site, it might be a good idea to bring a flashlight in order to ensure a safe exit.
There is limited parking available at the Northshore Little League Baseball complex on NE 145th Street, just before the Sammamish River. A donation of $4 would be appreciated. This area usually fills up by 8 or 8:30 p.m.
Disabled parking is available at Redhook Ale Brewery, 14300 NE 145th Street, and a disabled drop-off with attendants ready to help will be available at the West Gate of JB Instant Lawn.
Road Closures: To accommodate the celebration, these roads will be closed from 10 p.m. to midnight:
€ NE 143rd Street from SR 202 to 132nd Ave. NE
€ NE 145th Street (SR 202) between 148th Ave. NE (Woodinville-Redmond Road) and the Columbia Winery entrance
€ SR 202 heading southbound one-way between NE 175th and NE 145th
Gentle Reminders: Please, no pets, no personal fireworks and all alcoholic beverages are prohibited on the JB Instant Lawn site.
The Woodinville Family Fourth of July Celebration is being sponsored by the City of Woodinville and KMPS 94.1 FM, and presented by Redhook Ale Brewery, JB Instant Lawn, Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery, Columbia Winery, in conjunction with Willows Lodge, DeYoung Farm & Garden and Nobel Learning Communities.
Volunteer opportunities are available for adults 18 and older to assist with the day's activities. Contact event coordinators at (206) 770-0110 or email@example.com.
