Crash victim upgraded to satisfactory condition
by Jeanette Knutson
Harborview Medical Center confirmed that Anita Durrett, 41, of North Bend, has regained consciousness and is in satisfactory condition. Durrett, it is alleged, was involved in a shoplifting incident in Woodinville on June 9. When confronted about items she may have taken, Durrett jumped in her car and drove away. Two grocery store employees drove after her. Apparently the woman made an unsafe pass of another vehicle and lost control of her car, crossing the centerline and crashing into a tree. Witnesses say she was speeding and a Washington State Patrol collison report indicated that the weather was overcast and road conditions were wet.
Durrett's 9-year-old daughter, Ladawna, died in the crash.Detectives had not interviewed Durrett at the time this paper went to press, but they are gathering information concerning a possible vehicular homicide charge.
