Bothell Rec offers rockets, sports, engines, space, arts and crafts

Ramblin' Rec
   This is a drop-in program running through Aug. 23 for neighborhood youth. Kids are invited to join the group for arts and crafts, games and, of course, snacks. They can come and go anytime during the program.
   Come as often as you like. Parents are responsible if their child leaves an activity early. Please note that restrooms are not always available at all facilities.
   Locations: Stipek Park and Woodin Elementary - Monday and Wednesday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
   Frank Love Elementary and Conifer View Park - Monday and Wenesday, 1-3 p.m.
   Shelton View Elementary and Crystal Springs Elementary - Tuesday and Thursday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
   Brickyard Road Park - Tuesday, 1-3 p.m.
   Canyon Creek Elementary - Thursday, 1-3 p.m.
   Electricity Camp
   This hands-on program teaches children how to make things to help them better understand the world of circuits and motors.
   Tuesday: Design and build a flashlight, while learning about circuits, conductors and switches. Wednesday: Make your own electromagnetic game and explore magnetism. Thursday: Learn how an electric motor works and build an electric switch. This camp is co-sponsored and taught by the Snohomish County P.U.D. and is held at Canyon Creek Elementary School - Tuesday through Thursday, Aug. 7-9, 9 a.m. - noon.
   For students entering grades 3-6, $8/person per day.
   Space & Rocketry
   Learn about the solar system and the universe, rockets, the space shuttle and the International Space Station, how astronauts live in space and the history of the U.S. space program.
   Lots of hands-on activities like launching Alka Seltzer rockets, assembling a mock-up of the I.S.S. and running a mission control are offered. The instructor, Karen Ewing, is an engineer who has designed and built satellites for 15 years.
   Location is Anderson Cafeteria - Monday through Thursday, Aug. 13-16, 9 a.m. - noon
   For 2nd-5th graders, $48/person.
   Summer Sports Camps
   Soccer: July 23-27, Westhill Fields, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., 6-14 years, $98.
   Basketball: July 23-26, Kenmore Junior High, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., 7-14 years. $86.
   Soccer: Aug. 6-10, Westhill Fields, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., 6-14 years, $98.
   Baseball: July 16-20, Westhill Fields, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., 6-14 years, $98.
