Eastside Fire and Rescue awarded $3,000 worth of scholarships to graduating seniors at six local high schools.
The students were selected after careful review of their transcripts, two letters of recommendation, and an essay outlining their community service activities.
The following students were awarded the Professional Firefighters Scholarship: Samantha Ritter, Cedarcrest High School; Sara Wood, Eastlake; Chelsea Pinneo, Issaquah; Brook Staton, Liberty; Edward Hortsman, Mt. Si; Heather Turchin, Skyline.
Each student was awarded a $500 scholarship to be used towards tuition, school supplies, or housing at any college, university or vocational school of their choice.
This is the second year Eastside Fire and Rescue has given out scholarships to local high school students. Firefighters donate the money needed for the scholarships out of their paychecks throughout the year.
