A blast in the sand
Cloudy skies didn't seem to keep anyone away from Sandblast 2001 last weekend at the Duvall beach. Countless visitors, including Monroe resident Jenn Dazey (white sweater, above) enjoyed very comfortable weather as they carved sand into works of art. A circus theme was the focus of the centerpiece sculptures, which were designed by expert Kali Bradford. Clowns and performing animals, including elephants, seals and dogs, appeared from the sand under her expert guidance.
On a separate part of the beach, cordoned off for use by the amateurs, hordes of turrets and turtles poked out of the sand. What appeared to be a hammerhead shark lurked around the south edge.
The annual festival also included two days of musical entertainment and art exhibits.
