Free concerts feature marimba, folk music

Lora and Sukutai Marimba and Dance Ensemble will perform a free concert Thursday, Aug. 9, at noon at DeYoung Park in downtown Woodinville. The group will perform traditional and contemporary pieces from Zimbabwe using the rhythmic sound of the marimbas along with active audience participation. Before the concert everyone is invited to a free "Expressions of Africa" workshop at the Woodinville Community Center's Evergreen Room from 10 to 11 a.m. Participants will learn about stories, dance and music of Africa.
   On Sunday, Aug. 12, Reilly and Maloney will perform at the Woodinville City Hall Outdoor Plaza at 6 p.m. The folk duo have been presenting their blend of harmonious vocals and Maloney's guitar accompaniments for 20 years. They feature a mix of popular folk music from the 60s with their own repertoire of tunes.
