July 25 - At about 9:30 p.m., an officer stopped a vehicle on Tolt Avenue for a broken taillight. As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver immediately started to get out of the car, and acted very nervous. When the officer asked for a driver's license, he admitted to not having one because it was suspended, also admitting he had no insurance. The two children in the back seat were not wearing seatbelts. The officer placed him under arrest for Driving With License Suspended (DWLS), and asked if there was anything illegal in the vehicle. The driver said, "Not to my knowledge." A search of the driver's seat area revealed a metal pipe in a hole in the dashboard, a glass pipe at the driver's feet, and a bag of white powder in a cigarette pack on the dashboard, which the driver admitted was methamphetamine belonging to him. Two backup officers arrived to assist, one impounding the vehicle and the other contacting the children's mother to pick them up. The driver was booked for investigation of controlled substance (VUCSA).
