Silk Road Music, UMP to perform at free concerts

The DeYoung summer concert series continues this week with a performance by Silk Road Music on Thursday, Aug 23, at noon at DeYoung Park. This trio of talented musicians uses traditional Chinese instruments and Western performance techniques to play Chinese folk songs and other world music.
Before the performance there will be a free two-part workshop entitled "A Japanese Experience" in the Woodinville Community Center's Evergreen Room from 10-11 a.m. Participants will be viewing Ikebana, a Japanese flower arrangement demonstration with Nobuko Relnick during the first half hour and a demonstration of the Japanese martial art, Jodo.
On Sunday, Aug. 26, the local band, Units of Mass Production, (UMP) will perform from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Woodinville City Hall Plaza. UMP is made up of four Woodinville High School students who are the winners of the 2001 Teen Battle of the Bands. This dynamic group has a powerful mix of mellow instrumental and alternative songs that will entertain any audience. For information, call (425) 398-9327 or check the Web at www.ci.woodinville.wa.us.
