Back-to-school donations needed for families
from Carnation Hopelink
Going back to school can be an exciting time for children. The media, and especially advertisers, go all out. Credit card companies have ads out "to offer their assistance."
Consider the costs involved in getting a child ready for school ... think of all the things it can involve: school clothes, shoes, backpacks or book bags, paper, notebooks, pens and pencils, calculators, lunch boxes, etc., just to name the basics. These could easily add up to $100.
For low-income families this is a dreaded time of year. The children have been home all summer, and now the parents have to face their children wanting to have "what the other kids have."
