Bellevue Youth Symphony has new director

The Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce that conductor Adam Stern has accepted the position of Interim Music Director. Mr. Stern moved to Seattle in 1992 and has been prominent in the area's musical community ever since. Although he is best known for his work as Associate Conductor of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, he was also the Music Director of the Northwest Chamber Orchestra from 1994 to 2000. Mr. Stern made his New York orchestral conducting debut with the New York Chamber Symphony in 1998.
He is also a gifted pianist, having soloed with both the Seattle Symphony and the Northwest Chamber Orchestra. Mr. Stern is also a noted composer having composed works for many northwest theater companies and musical ensembles, including the Seattle Repertory Theatre, A Contemporary Theatre, and the Rainier Chamber Winds. He is active in the community, giving informative lectures for the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Northwest Chamber Orchestra, Seattle Opera, Seattle Chamber Music Festival, and the Rainier Chamber Winds.

Mr. Stern will be a welcome addition to the Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra, as he brings so many talents to share with the students. The Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra is the Eastside's oldest performing arts organization and has been serving young musicians since 1965 when it was founded by music teacher Frances Walton as the Olympic Youth Symphony. It provides a full instrumental experience to students from age 6 to 21 in one of four orchestral ensembles and the Northwest Harp Ensemble. The 2001-2002 Season begins with a bang as the Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra opens the Benaroya Hall annual "Day of Music" on September 29th. Other performances include opening for the Bellevue Philharmonic as well as several Showcase concerts throughout the year.
