Volunteers spruce up youth center

by Valley View staff
On the Saturday morning of Sept. 15, before the fog burned off, 12 stalwart citizens of Duvall responded to the call to help clean up around Duvall's Community Youth Center. Despite, or perhaps partially in response to, the events of the previous Tuesday, the volunteers pitched in with gusto, tackling the unsavory tasks of removing blackberry bushes, overgrown ivy, weeds and trees. They sawed, snipped, raked, shoveled, hauled and hoisted a huge dumpster full of cleared material.
The cleanup work was to prepare for the construction improvements to the youth center. Volunteers were children, parents and adults who have been working years to make the youth center happen.
Mayor Glen Kuntz announced that starting next week, Duvall's Public Works Department will be calling for bids to do the construction of the building. Construction is anticipated to begin in October, with completion anticipated early next spring.
Lydia (of the Valley) Smith painted the new sign. Those interested can check out the building at 26512 N.E. Stella St. or call Connie Zimmerman, capital project manager, at (425) 788-3434, ext. 32.
