Around the Valley

Infant/Toddler singing & signing
   Based on the book, Sign With Your Baby, this five-week parent/child class teaches techniques for enhancing your child's communication skills through singing and signing. The cost is $50 and parents receive the book Sign With Your Baby, a sign language chart, an instructional video and a music CD. The class will be held Wednesdays from 10-11 a.m. at the Duvall Fire Station, beginning Oct. 17. Call Children's Services of Sno-Valley at (425) 788-7924 to register. Scholarships are available.
  
   Art classes
   The Sno-Valley Senior Center, in conjunction with the Art Shack in Duvall, will be holding a new art class at the center. Lily and Lupin Tapert of the Art Shack will share their enthusiasm for all art media as they teach this six-session program. Students will try their hands at pottery, candle making and basketry. All materials for the class are included in the class fee of $60 for center members and $65 for non-members. Classes will be held on Wednesdays, from 12:45-2 p.m., starting Oct. 10. There will be a free demonstration of the techniques to be used on Oct. 3, at 12:30 p.m.
  
   Childcare co-op forming
   Children's Services of Sno-Valley is forming a parent-driven childcare co-op. There will be an informational meeting on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 10-11:30 a.m. Free childcare will be provided. Please call (425) 788-7924.
  
   Help for depression
   The tragedy of Sept. 11 has left many people feeling angry and sad. If these symptoms continue to disrupt your life you may be suffering from depression. The Sno-Valley Senior Center, in conjunction with the Snoqualmie Valley Hospital, is offering free screenings for depression on Monday, Oct. 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Each screening lasts one hour and there is no fee.    Yoga intro and back relief workshop
   Two Rivers Yoga in Carnation will be holding a free introduction to Yoga on Sunday, Oct. 7, from 1-2:30 p.m. A back relief workshop will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, from 1-2:30 p.m. Learn to strengthen and support your back through a series of yoga postures specifically designed for healing the spine.    After Hours at Pumps & Grinds
   Oct. 5 brings the unveiling of an international handcrafts and arts collection to Pumps & Grinds in Duvall. From the hands of third-world peoples of Tibet, Afghanistan, Jordan, Ecuador and many other countries, come crafts rarely seen in the Puget Sound area. Saturday night "P & G After Hours" shows open at 7 p.m. Pumps & Grinds is located at 15614 Main St., Duvall. Call (425) 844-2766.
  
   Dinner at Senior Center
   On Saturday, Oct. 13, the Sno-Valley Senior Center hosts a night of fine dining and quality entertainment at the monthly steak dinner. Seatings will be at 4:30 and 6 p.m. The cost is $12 and includes a trip down the huge salad bar. Following the early seating, the van will provide transportation to Duvall for Reilly and Maloney at the Cedarcrest Performing Arts Center. The cost for the concert and the ride is $9.
