Area students row in Boston regatta

Todd Mickelson, a sophomore at Woodinville High School, Scott Hartley and Vince Lowney, of Redmond High School, and Tyler Smith of Issaquah High School represented the Sammamish Rowing Association on October 21 at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Massachusetts. Todd, Scott, and Vince are 3-year members and Tyler a 2-year member of the rowing club, which is located on West Lake Sammamish Parkway in Redmond. Todd rowed in the stroke position, with Tyler in the third-man position, Scott in the second and Vince in the first position on a junior four-man crew team which competed against 31 other teams in their division. They were one of 16 high school boats, the remainder being college freshmen. Their team finished 13th overall in their division on the three-mile course, with a time of 18:10.44. The Head of the Charles Regatta, which dates back to 1965, is the largest rowing regatta in the world with 5,500 race entries and approximately 300,000 spectators.
