Holiday carols, carriage rides, Santa Claus

For the fifth year, Woodinville Community United Methodist Church, 17110 140th Ave. NE, will host Carols on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 28, Dec. 5, 12 and 19. Bring a sack lunch and enjoy holiday music. Stay as long as you wish.
   Winterfest begins in Bothell with the arrival of Santa Claus at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Park at Bothell Landing. Rides on the Holiday Train begin at 4:30 p.m. Holiday songs by Bothell's Youth Choir and photo opportunities with Santa (parents, bring your own cameras) will be available.
   The King's Chorale will present a holiday concert at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, at Wooden Cross Lutheran Church, 17401 198th Ave. NE in Woodinville, and Sunday, Nov. 25, at Light of the Cross Lutheran Church, 2717 180th Ave. SE in Bothell. Woodinville residents who are members of the choir include Sherry Kimball, Linda Rubel, Bob Rubel, Kirsten Scarseth, Sonja Scarseth and Jan Dougherty. Admission is a suggested donation of $5 per person. A reception will follow the performances.
   Each year Bothell Parks & Recreation decorates a holiday tree with tags representative of children in need throughout the community. Community members are encouraged to purchase a gift and deliver it (unwrapped) to the Parks & Rec. office. All gifts are delivered to Hopelink for distribution. Tags may be picked up beginning Nov. 24.
   The Wells Fargo Magic Season, Bellevue's annual holiday celebration, begins Friday, Nov. 23, and runs through Dec. 31. Featured events include an ice arena in Bellevue Downtown Park (admission is $5; skate rental is $2); holiday performances of "The Nutcracker Ballet," "Forgotten Carols," A Christmas Carol" at Meydenbauer Center (tickets are $6-$20); Garden D'Lights from 5-9 p.m. daily Dec. 1-31 at Bellevue Botanical Garden (free, suggested donation of $3); horse-drawn carriage rides in Old Bellevue Nov. 24-Dec. 22 noon to 7 p.m. on Saturdays ($1 per person - pick up at Downtown Park); Cards of the World, free workshops for children to learn about cultural celebrations of the world (425-452-4106) will be held at Bellevue community centers Nov. 24, 26, 28 and Dec. 1; Santa's Toyland Parade Nov. 23 at 5:30 p.m. on Bellevue Square West Drive; the annual tree lighting in the Wintergarden at 5:30 p.m. at Bellevue Place Nov. 23.    Santa will be at Country Village's Storybook Studios from Friday, Nov. 23, through Sunday, Dec. 23, for photos. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday - Sunday with a break from 1-2 p.m. For information or reservations, call (425) 398-9690.
   Santa Claus officially welcomes the holiday season in Snohomish when he arrives atop a fire engine at Santa Lane (First Street and Avenue A) Friday, Nov. 23, at 2 p.m. Photos with Santa will be available from 2:15-7:30 p.m. A tree lighting ceremony is planned for 5 p.m. at First Street and Avenue B.
   Shoppers are invited to the 12th annual Snohomish Sampler, to be held this year Nov. 28-Dec. 1 at four locations in Snohomish.
   Each of the four houses will feature its own blend of artists and be decorated for the holidays. The houses are located at 904 3rd St. (360) 563-0801; 116 Avenue B (360-568-1302); 1130 Pine (425-338-5403); 14519 Westwick Rd. (360-568-3471).
   Beginning Nov. 23, Zoolights will transform Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium into a glittering holiday wonderland with over 500,000 lights. To conserve energy, Zoolights will be closed Mondays-Wednesdays until Dec. 13, then open daily through Dec. 31 except for Dec. 24-25. Tickets are $4 at the gate or $3.50 if purchased in advance.    Children's Home Society of Washington will host this year's carousel in the Westlake Center in downtown Seattle Nov. 23-Dec. 31 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
   Suggested donation is $1 and all donations go to help Seattle-area children.
