Molbak's to close U Village satellite
Molbak's will close its University Village store at 4601 25th Avenue NE in Seattle at the end of December. Neither the company's main store in Woodinville nor its Seattle Garden Center at Pike Place Market will be affected by the closure.
The decision to close the University Village store is part of a strategic business plan to refocus the company on its core strength, the garden center business, said Kern Gillette, Molbak's president and chief operating officer.
"We tried a unique format at University Village, with a much smaller space than our 15-acre Woodinville site, and with a product mix that placed more emphasis on gifts, accessories and décor items," said Gillette. "We have learned that we need to do what we do best, and that's to concentrate on offering the largest selection of the highest quality plants in the Pacific Northwest, as we do in Woodinville and our Seattle Garden Center store at Pike Place Market."
The University Village Molbak's will remain open until the end of December. A store closing sale has already begun and will continue through the end of the year.
