Flower World in Maltby claims tallest poinsettia tree

MALTBY - Flower World's employees have created what they claim to be the largest poinsettia tree in the world.
It is over 19 feet tall and is 13 feet wide at the base. The tree contains 540 poinsettia plants which were grown specifically for that purpose. The two varieties used are Freedom Red and Freedom White.
The tree is watered with three different watering systems since the plants at the top dry faster than the ones at the bottom.
Each of the 540 poinsettias has its own little individual watering tube.
The tree will be on display at Flower World inside the greenhouses through Dec. 16. It is most spectacular after it gets dark when the tree and the colors of the poinsettias are highlighted by floodlights and surrounded by the 20,000 other poinsettias in 24 different varieties.
A group of carolers will be performing on Saturday evenings through Dec. 15 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The public is invited to use the tree as a backdrop for their family Christmas pictures.
The tree can be seen through Sunday, Dec. 16, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day of the week and until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The 19 ft. tall poinsettia tree has been submitted to the "Guinness Book ofWorld Records" to be included as the tallest poinsettia tree in the world.
Flower World is located at 9322 196th St. SE, Maltby.
