'Art of Iron 2002' opens Jan. 18 at Bothell gallery

If the word "blacksmith" brings to your mind images of horseshoes, forget it. The works of many Northwest artist/blacksmiths are more likely to be found forming the gateway to Safeco Field, on massive cathedral doors, in formal gardens, or in art galleries and museums.
Often ignored by the arts community, these artists sometimes refer to themselves as "the Hell's Angels" of the art world. This year a dozen of these men and women are participating in "The Art of Iron 2002" at Kaewyn Gallery in Bothell, the only annual exhibit devoted exclusively to the art of hand-forged iron.
A "Meet the Artists" reception from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, marks the opening of this year's exhibit. Kaewyn Gallery is located at 18104 102nd Ave NE, just south of Main Street in downtown Bothell.
The exhibit will run through Saturday, Feb. 23.
