St. Brendan School celebrates

St. Brendan Parish School is celebrating 35 years in the community. The school opened on Sept. 6, 1966, to 139 students in grades one through four. Father McGirl was pastor of St. Brendan Parish and Sister Josephine Contris was the first principal of the school. Since then it has grown to 268 students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
In the fall of 2000, St. Brendan Parish launched the "On Course for Life Campaign" which raised enough money to carry out many school improvements and a major addition. The school opened this Sept. 17 with a new foyer, computer lab, science lab and library.
Rev. Stephen Rowan, Superintendent of Catholic Schools, will bless and dedicate the remodeled school after the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Jan. 27. A reception and open house will follow with many past and present school families, students, teachers and friends celebrating 35 years.
