Cedarcrest wrestlers win first league title

   The Cedarcrest High School wrestling team secured the KingCo 3A tournament title Feb. 2 with a win over Liberty High School at Liberty.
   With the win, the Red Wolves completed their sweep of all the league titles with a record of 9-0.
   On Jan. 24, the team won the 3A KingCo dual meet title, beating Liberty with a score of 36-27. This was the school's first KingCo 3A title since joining the league in 1997.
   In the Feb. 2 league meet, the KingCo 3A wrestling title was won by Cedarcrest wrestler Aaron Pedeferri.
   The achievement gave the 119-pounder his third league title in his third different weight class. Pedeferri was among four Cedarcrest wrestlers who made it to the finals.
   Pedeferri defeated his opponent 17-0 with a technical fall.
   Robby Westerman and Adam Speir also earned championships in their weight classes. Westerman pinned his Mercer Island opponent and Adam Speir outscored his opponent from Liberty by 8-6.
   Jeff Newcomer, Cedarcrest wrestling coach, was named KingCo 3A wrestling coach of the year.
   Cedarcrest earned 246 points, Liberty was second with 227 points and Mount Si came in third with 190.
