Shannon McArdel is outstanding freshman scholar
Shannon Leah McArdel of Woodinville has been selected as the freshman medalist for the 2000-2001 school year at the University of Washington.
McArdel, now a sophomore, was selected by the Honors Subcommittee of the Faculty Council on Academic Standards.
McArdel, 19, was co-valedictorian at Woodinville High School, from which she graduated in 2000. She also was chosen the outstanding chemistry student at Woodinville High. This year, she is conducting research with Elizabeth Aylward, UW professor of radiology, involving neurological diseases.
At the UW, McArdel was chosen the outstanding freshman chemistry student last year. In her spare time, she is interested in dance.
McArdel plans to major in neurobiology and pursue a career in medicine. She is the daughter of Rick and Diane McArdel of Woodinville.
