Obituary:Thordis Josephine Groves

Thordis Groves passed away on Monday, February 18, 2002 at Northwest Hospital, Seattle. Thordis was born on December 30, 1910, in Binford, N.D., to Gunder and Josephine (Evjen) Rust. She was the oldest of nine children. Thordis was a graduate of Custer High School and was a cook/baker for the Ferndale School District for many years. She was a member of Custer United Methodist Church and Woodinville Methodist Church.
   Thordis enjoyed gardening, photography, crocheting, playing cards and family gatherings.
   Preceded in death by her husband Reuben and her son Monte, she is survived by her daughters: Elaine Johnson and her husband Howard of Graham; Marlene Young and her husband Clyde of Birch Bay; Ilene Sarkies and her husband Todd of Woodinville; 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; sisters, Glenda Richardson, Inga Sandness, Mary Baxter and her husband Gorden, and sister-in-law Ethel Stockton. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive her.
   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crista Nursing Center, 19303 Fremont Ave N., Seattle, WA, or Custer United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 500, Custer, WA.
   Graveside services were held Feb. 25 at Enterprise Cemetery in Ferndale. A memorial service followed at Custer United Methodist Church.
