Woodinville walk voted one of the best in country

by Bob Kunzmann
The Woodinville year-round Volkssport walk was voted as the fourth best walk in the U.S. out of 1,300 walks by members of the American Volkssport Association.
A walk in Kirkland tied for seventh place. Other top 10 walks are in New York City, Boston, Washington, D.C., Charleston, Savannah and West Point, N.Y.
The 10K walk with a 2K option starts at the Woodinville QFC and goes through downtown past Molbak's and the Saturday Farmers Market through Wilmot Gateway Park and on the Sammamish River Trail to the Red Hook Brewery, the Columbia Winery and Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery grounds, and back to QFC.
First-time walkers are encouraged to visit the places along the route including the brewery and wineries. The walk is free or $2 for Volkssport credit.
Walkers can start this walk throughout the year, except for Christmas and Thanksgiving, by signing up at the box at the QFC service desk and receiving a map. Over 500 walkers from all over Washington and 20 states and five countries have made this walk.
In addition to the year-round walk, Interlaken Trailblazers Volkssport Walking Club will sponsor a 5K walk and a 10K walk/run event at Redhook Brewery April 6 beginning from 9 a.m. to noon and ending at 3 p.m. For more information, call (425) 788-2182.
