Woodinville snowboarders win at Snoqualmie

Woodinville 5th graders Geoffrey Spain and Jake Sims participated in the Nissan Boardercross snowboarding event at the Summit at Snoqualmie ski area on Sunday, March 17. Both are students at Bear Creek Elementary School and have been snowboarding for five years.
Over 100 riders participated in the event held on a 1/2-mile course. Spain placed second with the silver medal and Sims finished fourth overall. Despite crashing in each of his heats, Spain managed to recover and make up ground to capture a silver medal.
Sims's finish was impacted by an equipment failure midway through his final heat, leaving him unable to buckle up the rear binding, but he completed the course with his boot unattached to his snowboard.
