Food Lifeline needs volunteers

Food Lifeline is seeking volunteers to assist with this year's National Letter Carriers' Food Drive, set for Saturday, May 11. Volunteers can work at their neighborhood post office that day from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m., or 2:30-6 p.m., unloading non-perishable food donations from the carriers' vehicles to help get them back out on their route.
Last year National Association of Letter Carriers, Branch 79, collected 777,869 pounds of food, which generated the equivalent of more than 600,000 meals for hungry families and individuals throughout Western Washington.
This time of year is especially critical for many food banks since their stock of holiday donations runs low just as school breakfast and lunch programs close for the summer. Children in particular benefit from the extra food provided by the NALC food drive. To volunteer, call (206) 545-FOOD, or (800) 404-7543, or e-mail volunteer@fll.org
