Cottage Lake Elementary programs honored at PTA Convention

The Washington State PTA recognized Cottage Lake PTA with two awards at the Washington State PTA 2002 state convention May 4 for two innovative programs at the school.
The Washington State PTA awarded the Applegate Grant to Cottage Lake PTA for the publication of the inaugural edition of "The Telltale," a compilation of writing by every student at Cottage Lake Elementary.
The bound book showcases different writing forms and honors the creativity of every student with its publication. The PTA also sought and received grants from the King County Library System and Friends of Woodinville Library to fund the publication. The purpose of the Applegate Grant Program is to provide opportunities for supplemental funding to PTA units and councils for community-wide projects focusing on the health, welfare, safety, education, care, and protection of children.
Additionally The Washington State PTA awarded the PTA Taking Significant Action Award to Cottage Lake Elementary PTA for their Outdoor Classroom. The Cottage Lake PTA sponsored and constructed the Outdoor Classroom Project raising $42,000 in cash and an additional $33,000 in grant awards and in-kind donations through collaboration with local corporations, public agencies and community groups.
The purpose of the PTSA program is to recognize the accomplishments of PTA units and councils across the state that present programs, projects, and activities that show significant originality, involvement, potential, usefulness, and results.
