Ice Cream Social Planned to Kickoff Valley General Hospital Expansion Bond Campaign

Monroe, Snohomish and Sultan have seen large population increases over the past several years. With the growing number of young families and senior citizens moving into East Snohomish County, the need for quality care close to home becomes even more apparent. Valley General Hospital has targeted several areas for expansion, including emergency, surgery, imaging, and the birth center. Since 1990, emergency room visits have grown by 94%, inpatient and same-day surgery by 282%, imaging services by 380%, and the number of families using the birthing center by 65%.
A group of local citizens has formed a committee to promote the 60% super majority "yes" vote needed to pass the construction bond, which will be on the ballot September 17. To kickoff the campaign, community members are invited to attend an ice cream social at the East County Senior Center, 824 Village Way, Monroe on Wednesday, May 29, from 6-8 p.m. Snohomish County Executive Bob Drewel will be scooping ice cream and campaign volunteers will be on-hand to answer questions about the hospital expansion. Please R.S.V.P. to Tina Ross at (425) 418-5685.
