Anita Durrett sentenced in death of daughter
Anita Durrett, 42, of North Bend, charged with vehicular homicide in the death of her 9-year-old daughter, was sentenced to 21 months in jail.
According to reports, Durrett shoplifted from the Woodinville Albertson's grocery store last June, then hopped in her car - with her daughter in the front seat - and sped away from the store. Store employees followed her car. A couple miles from the store, she passed one vehicle and apparently lost control of her car, slamming it into a tree. Her daughter was killed in the accident. Durrett was seriously injured. The $260-odd dollars' worth of groceries taken by Durrett that day last June spilled out onto the store's parking lot as she pulled away. She was never charged with shoplifting.
Durrett, however, has since filed a personal injury lawsuit against Albertson's, claiming vigorous pursuit by store employees agitated her, causing her to drive recklessly.
