Gates Foundation honors five Northshore teachers
Five Northshore School District teachers have been awarded Teacher Leadership Project Grants for the 2002-2003 school year from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Recipients of the grants are:
Janet Clements, third/fourth PACE, Kokanee Elementary; Tamara Erickson, fifth grade, East Ridge Elementary; Alison Ford, fifth grade, Fernwood Elementary; Linda Nelson, fifth grade, Bear Creek Elementary; Mary Wyrwitzke, fourth grade, Fernwood Elementary.
The Teacher Leadership Project is curriculum-based and designed for full-time classroom teachers, kindergarten-12th grade, who see the same group of students each day. The training modules are specifically designed for teachers in language arts, social studies, science, and math. The project provides teachers with the opportunity to learn how to integrate technology into their curriculum based on state learning targets. Teachers attend workshops, seminars, participate in email discussions, journal their experiences, and fulfill assessment and evaluation requirements.
Each recipients will receive 11 days of professional development training over the summer and during the 2002-2003 school year and $9,000 in technology equipment for their classrooms. This equipment package includes a laptop computer, software package, and enough multimedia computers to lower the ratio of computers to students in their classrooms to one computer for every four students.
