Fees for passports increase
Fees for U.S. passports will increase Aug, 19. The U.S. Department of State recently noted that the changes are the result of an independent fee study done to ensure that the true costs of providing consular services to Americans are recovered.
The application fee for first-time adult customers will increase from $60 to $85. The fee for minors under age 16 will increase from $40 to $70. The adult renewal application fee will increase from $40 to $55. The additional cost for expedited service will increase from $35 to $60.
With routine processing, passports are received within 6 weeks. Those needing expedited service pay the additional fee, plus two-way overnight delivery, and receive their passports within 2 weeks. Those needing their passports in less that 14 days - for travel or to obtain foreign visas - need to make an appointment at the Seattle Passport Agency by calling (206) 808-5700.
For other passport information, customers may visit the Bureau of Consular Affairs' website at travel.state.gov. Customers may also call the National Passport Information Center at 1-900-225-5674.
King County's Cottage Lake Community Service Center provides passport application intake services on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from noon to 3:15 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. A complete list of passport application acceptance facilities in the area can be found at travel.state.gov.
