This year's Fourth of July celebration was especially memorable

This year's 4th of July celebration was an especially memorable one due to what has been happening in our country. I think this year we topped all our numbers in the past with the amount of people who came to our city for the festivities. I know we had more kids who marched in the kiddie parade. Thank you for who participating. You made the kiddie parade that much more memorable.
Thank you to all the people who live on Morrison and Steward streets for allowing me to set up the parade route in front of your homes. A huge thank you to the Tolt Congregational Church and Pastor Jeff Spencer for allowing me to have my parade registration on your lawn.
Thank you to all the merchants in town for helping with the day's festivities. A special thank you to all my parade helpers the day of the 4th: Joshuah Lisk, Paul Diediker and Nick Hinton who all got up with me at 5:30 a.m. to set the parade route and then continued to help all morning. Thank you to Regan Doyle for helping with the parade registration and to Pat Funk, Kathleen Mehrens, Beth Walz, Dawn Board, who also helps with the 5-K run, and Brenda, who comes from Fall City, for your help during the parade. Thank you to the parade announcers Jack Ballard and Jackie Perrigue and to the parade judges Megan, Kathy and Jeanne Venables. Also thank you to the city workers who put in a lot of time and energy and the Carnation Police Department.
I would like to thank the committee I get to work with. Kathy Castillo, our chair for the event, did an outstanding job. For those that don't know, she not only chairs the event, she also takes care of all the facilities (meaning port-a potties, garbage, electrical and stages). She also sets up the entire vendor village. Then there is Chris Icabozzi who did a great job this year with the 5K run. Thank you also to Katie Castillo for putting together the Princess Contest and Anita Lee our treasurer.
And then we have Steve and Doreen Norton who took care of the Hot Rods and Harleys, the carnival and T-shirts besides running their business, Steve's Collision. They also take care of most of the phone calls that come in with questions. They have been the chairs of the event for three years and have done an outstanding job. This year was their last year with the 4th of July Committee and I would like to thank them for their hard work and dedication. It has been a pleasure to get to know these people. Doreen and Steve have put in a lot of work over the years and I know we will miss them on the committee.
It was a successful 2002 4th of July Celebration in Carnation. Hope you had fun.
   See you all next year.
