Cedarcrest AAU basketball team wins Pacific Northwest 6th grade championship

The Cedarcrest 6th grade basketball team is quickly making a name for themselves, just forming as a new team less than a year ago. Coach Al Shoenbachler and Mario Yakaboski saw a need to bring AAU basketball to the growing community of Duvall. Tryouts were held at Cedarcrest High School and the AAU 6th grade girls Cedarcrest team was formed.
They have participated in nine tournaments, having made it to eight championships and winning four.
Together Al and Mario helped develop a winning program, which includes basketball skills training, as well as weight training. They hope to generate enough excitement in Duvall, to bring more girls out next year. As such, they will be holding tryouts to expand the team next fall.
As continued commitment to bringing this community up to speed, a new website is being developed by Gary England (www.svsports.org) which will report on the progress of youth sports in the Valley.
