Thompson wins grand prize for wine display
Jamie Jill Thompson, the wine steward at the QFC - Bella Botega in Redmond, won the first Retail Grand Prize Award offered by the Washington Wine Commission.
Thompson, a Maltby resident, created a display with an antique wine press provided by Silver Lake Cellars and information about Washington wine production. The award was presented at a luncheon on Sept.16 at Chateau Ste. Michelle.
As part of the August retail Washington Wine Month promotion, different retailers created displays that featured Washington wines. The promotion is in its fifth year but this is the first year for the award.
The other individual store winners were: Debra Behrndt, wine specialist at the Houghton Market Thriftway in Kirkland; Lilli Cross, wine specialist at TOP Food and Drug in Lacey; and Jonathan Hilmo, from Albertson's in Lakewood.
The Washington Wine Commission will hold Taste Washington Wine Month for both restaurants and retailers in March, leading up to the Taste Washington event at the Stadium Exhibition Center on April 6, 2003.
