Teacher presented with Professional Educator of the Year Award for 2001
Bill Dumond, a third-grade teacher at Stillwater Elementary, was presented last week with the 2001 Professional Educator of the Year Award from the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) for his classroom use of amateur (ham) radio.
In 1994, Dumond received a grant of $1,200 that went toward installing a high frequency radio station at the school. Since then, hundreds of students have learned the basics of amateur radio.
The award was presented by Harry Lewis, section manager for the ARRL; Bob Decker, ARRL member and former Riverview School Board member, and Mary Lewis, past director Northwestern Division, at an assembly at Stillwater Sept. 23.
