Woodinville grad to compete in Ironman championship
Brad Schmidt, a 1996 graduate of Woodinville High School, has qualified to compete in the Ironman Triathlon World Championship Oct. 18 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
The competition consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run, all of which must be completed in a 17-hour timeframe. Training for the 140-6-mile event usually requires 18-24 hours per week for 6-8 months More than 50,000 triathletes attempted to qualify for the Hawaiin event, which is limited to 1,500 entrants.
While Schmidt was at WHS, he competed in cross country, track and wrestling. He later graduated with a degree in chemistry from Eastern Washington University where he was also a member of the track team. He is currently attending Palmer School of Chiropractic in San Jose, Calif.
