Bothell earns trip to quarterfinals with win over Bellarmine
BOTHELL - Bothell's Glennte Cummings and Sean Gallacher rushed for a combined total of 228 yards last Saturday night at Pop Keeney Stadium to set up a victory over the Lions of Bellarmine Prep and a trip to the state quarterfinals.
Spurred on by a strong defense that forced four turnovers by Bellarmine and 4,000 wildly supportive fans, the undefeated Cougars held their 4A opponents to just one score beating their cross-lake rivals 21-7.
Unlike their playoff game against Federal Way, the Cougars scored first.
That touchdown came on their first possession of the game as junior tight end Brendan Gallacher made a 12-yard reception in the endzone.
Following a lone score by Bellarmine in the second quarter, Bothell recovered a fumbled punt return and sent Cummings around the right side to put the Cougars up 14-7.
A 78-yard run up the middle by Bothell's Sean Gallacher in the third quarter capped the night's scoring.
Cornerback Justin Hughes was credited for two key interceptions quashing Bellarmine's scoring attempts.
Bothell (11-0) will meet Capital High School (8-2) in the Class 4A quarterfinals to be held on the weekend of Nov. 29-30.
